在全世界各地，綠顏色的交通燈就是可以通行的意思。可是，除了交通燈以外，人們也經(jīng)常在日常生活中用「開(kāi)綠燈」這個(gè)說(shuō)法來(lái)表示某個(gè)計(jì)劃獲得批準(zhǔn)，可以進(jìn)行。在中文里，我們也經(jīng)常這么說(shuō)的。
下面我們要介紹的一個(gè)俗語(yǔ)就是 green light。我們已經(jīng)知道，green就是綠顏色，light就是指燈。Green light就是綠燈。
在美國(guó)，一個(gè)在某公司工作的管理人員可能會(huì)對(duì)他的秘書(shū)說(shuō)：
"My boss liked my idea to open a branch office in Los Angeles and gave me the green light to
go ahead."
"我的老板非常支持我在洛杉磯開(kāi)一個(gè)分公司的建議。他讓我按計(jì)劃去辦。"
下面我們?cè)賮?lái)舉個(gè)例子：
"The astronauts were in the space shuttle ready to go, but somebody saw one of their computers
had a problem. It's fixed now, but Houston Control is checking it again before they give the green
light to launch."
"宇航員都已經(jīng)進(jìn)入航天飛機(jī)，準(zhǔn)備出發(fā)。但是，有一個(gè)人發(fā)現(xiàn)他們的電腦有個(gè)問(wèn)題。現(xiàn)在雖然已經(jīng)修好，可是休斯頓控制中心正在再一次進(jìn)行檢查，然后再讓他們正式發(fā)射。"
