讀者Elinore在Harry Potter小說(shuō)又看到另一句：
He did not see how he could possibly explain to Hermione that what she had done to offend Ron was kiss Viktor Krum ...
Elinore想知道為什么was之后是kiss而不是kissing或者h(yuǎn)er kiss with？
句中what she had done to offend Ron was kiss Viktor Krum其實(shí)應(yīng)該是what she had done to offend Ron was to kiss Viktor Krum，只不過(guò)把to省略了。
更重要的似乎是省略的問(wèn)題。不定詞的to在什么時(shí)候應(yīng)保留，什么時(shí)候可省略？根據(jù)我的觀察，英語(yǔ)在這方面正在變化。以前遇到同樣句型，傾向保留to，現(xiàn)在省略的居多。
