1. 兩者都可表示過(guò)去反復(fù)發(fā)生的動(dòng)作。如:
In those days he would help her with her gardening. 那時(shí)他常來(lái)幫助她種植花木。
I used to write poetry when I was your age. 我像你那么大時(shí)常常寫詩(shī)。
I don’t swim as often as I used to. 我游泳的時(shí)候不像過(guò)去那樣多了
Children are not so well-behaved nowadays as they used to be. 孩子們現(xiàn)在沒(méi)有過(guò)去那樣聽(tīng)話了。
有時(shí)兩者可互換。如:
When we were children we would (used to) to skating every winter. 我們小時(shí)候,每年冬天都支溜冰。
2. 但在下列情況中一般只用used to, 而不用would:
(1) 用來(lái)表示過(guò)去與現(xiàn)在的對(duì)比,即“以前這樣,但現(xiàn)在不這樣了”。如:
I used to go on Saturdays, but now I no longer do so. 過(guò)去我星期六經(jīng)常去但現(xiàn)在我不去了。
(2) 表示過(guò)去持續(xù)的狀態(tài)。如:
He used to like you. 我原來(lái)喜歡你。
There used to be a tree here. 原來(lái)這里有棵樹(shù)。
