沈陽大學(xué)是一所涵蓋哲、經(jīng)、法、教、文、史、理、工、農(nóng)、管、藝術(shù)等11大學(xué)科門類，以本科教育為主體，同時(shí)擁有碩士研究生教育、高等職業(yè)技術(shù)教育、繼續(xù)教育和留學(xué)生教育的多層次、多類型的綜合性大學(xué)，辦學(xué)歷史可追溯到1906年建立的“奉天實(shí)業(yè)學(xué)堂”和“新民公學(xué)堂”。學(xué)校現(xiàn)有望花南街-聯(lián)合路、新民兩個(gè)校區(qū)，風(fēng)光秀麗、景色宜人，校區(qū)占地面積59.55萬平方米，建筑面積40.53萬平方米。學(xué)校堅(jiān)持“科學(xué)辦學(xué)、民主辦學(xué)、開放辦學(xué)”的理念，始終堅(jiān)持應(yīng)用型人才培養(yǎng)方向，形成了“面向基層‘下得去、干得好’和面向市場‘能創(chuàng)業(yè)、創(chuàng)好業(yè)’的為遼沈地區(qū)老工業(yè)基地振興服務(wù)”的人才培養(yǎng)特色。

學(xué)?，F(xiàn)有21個(gè)學(xué)院和1個(gè)公共教學(xué)部，設(shè)有本科專業(yè)57個(gè)，?？茖I(yè)24個(gè)，學(xué)術(shù)型一級學(xué)科碩士學(xué)位授權(quán)點(diǎn)10個(gè)，專業(yè)碩士學(xué)位授權(quán)點(diǎn)6個(gè)，博士后科研工作站1個(gè)。截至2011年5月，學(xué)校有專任教師1235人，其中院士1人，教授、副教授723人，具有碩士學(xué)位519人、博士學(xué)位177人。學(xué)?，F(xiàn)有各類在校生30,145人，專業(yè)實(shí)驗(yàn)室22個(gè)，校內(nèi)外教學(xué)實(shí)踐基地155個(gè)。教學(xué)科研儀器設(shè)備總價(jià)值10621.96萬元，圖書館藏書158.8萬冊。學(xué)校注重開放辦學(xué)，積極開展對外交流與合作，先后與美國、英國、法國等近20個(gè)國家和地區(qū)的60余所大學(xué)建立了交流與合作關(guān)系。

近年來，面對高等教育日趨激烈的競爭環(huán)境，沈陽大學(xué)黨委帶領(lǐng)全校師生員工，深入貫徹落實(shí)科學(xué)發(fā)展觀，扎實(shí)推進(jìn)教學(xué)質(zhì)量提升、服務(wù)社會(huì)、大學(xué)生就業(yè)、人才強(qiáng)校等工程，取得了豐碩成果。目前，我校已有國家級示范專業(yè)1個(gè)、國家級雙語示范課2門、省、市級示范專業(yè)5個(gè)，省級實(shí)驗(yàn)教學(xué)示范中心1個(gè)，教育部重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室1個(gè)，省級重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室5個(gè)，省優(yōu)勢特色重點(diǎn)學(xué)科3個(gè)，省級優(yōu)秀教學(xué)團(tuán)隊(duì)8個(gè)。“十一五”期間，學(xué)校共承擔(dān)各類科研課題1136項(xiàng)。2010年，還成功獲得國家科技部支撐計(jì)劃項(xiàng)目1項(xiàng)，國家重大水專項(xiàng)1項(xiàng)，國家自然科學(xué)基金11項(xiàng)，國家社會(huì)科學(xué)基金2項(xiàng)。

學(xué)校堅(jiān)持地方大學(xué)必須緊密圍繞沈陽老工業(yè)基地振興的辦學(xué)思想，在服務(wù)中求支持，在貢獻(xiàn)中求發(fā)展，先后在北票市、新民市、遼中縣、鐵西區(qū)等建立了產(chǎn)學(xué)研合作基地，與市環(huán)保局、市地鐵建設(shè)指揮部等10余個(gè)單位和部門以及沈陽市十五家大型知名企業(yè)建立了產(chǎn)學(xué)研合作關(guān)系。

Shenyang University is a comprehensive university，which offers programs in 11 fields of education including Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Liberal Arts, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Management and Arts. It centers on undergraduate education and also involves in graduate education, advanced vocational and technical education, continued education and the education for international students. The history of Shenyang University can be dated back to the establishment of “Mukden Industrial School” and “Xinmin Public School” in the year 1906. Two beautiful and delightful campuses, which are Wanghuanan Street – Lianhe Road Campus and Xinmin Campus, cover an area of 595, 500 square meters with construction area of 405, 300 square meters. The University adheres to the principle of running the school scientifically, democratically and internationally, and the tenet of serving the revitalization of Liaoning and Shenyang old industrial base to train practical talents who can do well in starting and running their business in various markets as its characteristics of cultivation.

At present, there are 21 colleges and one teaching department which provide 57 four-year programs, 24 three-year programs, 16 Master’s Degree programs among which 10 are academic and first-level disciplines and 6 are specialized disciplines, and one Post-doctoral Scientific Research Workstation. As of May, 2011, there are 123, 5 full-time teachers including one academician, 723 associate professors and professors. Among the teachers, 519 of them have got Master’s Degrees and 177 have got PhD Degrees. The total number of students is 30,145. The University has 22 specialized laboratories and 155 teaching practice bases. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipments is RMB 106 million Yuan and the library stores 1.588 million books. Shenyang University attaches great importance to running the school internationally and has developed actively international exchange and collaboration, and established cooperation relationship with more than 60 colleges and universities in more than 20 countries and regions such as USA, UK and France.

In recent years, confronting the severe competition in higher education, the Party Committee of Shenyang University is leading its students, teachers and staff to thoroughly implement the scientific concept of development, and earnestly promoting the projects such as the enhancement of teaching quality, serving the society, the employment of college graduates and strengthening the university with talents, and has gained remarkable achievement. The University owns 1 national-level exemplary specialty, 2 national-level bilingual exemplary courses, 5 provincial-level and municipal-level exemplary specialties, 1 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 5 provincial-level key laboratories, 3 provincial-level preponderant and characteristic key disciplines, 8 provincial-level excellent teaching teams. During the 11th five-year-plan period, the University undertook 113, 6 scientific research projects. In 2010, the University obtained 1 support project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 1 national major science and technology research project on water pollution control and management, 11 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 2 projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China.

The University persists in the idea for running the school, which is that the local university should focus closely on the revitalization of Shenyang old industrial base, to get their support while serving them, to seek development while making contributions to them. It has established production-learning-research cooperative bases in Beipiao City, Xinmin City, Liaozhong County and Tiexi District, etc.; it has set up production-learning-research cooperative relationship with more than 10 work units and administrative departments including Shenyang Environmental Protection Bureau and Shenyang Subway Construction Headquarters , and 15 famous large-scale enterprises in Shenyang.

In compliance with the school motto “Profound Virtue and Academic Excellence, Complete Sincerity and Great Diligence”, it carries out colorful campus cultural activities such as “Culture Festival, Science and Technology Festival, Physical Education Festival and Students Societies and Clubs Festival” and has formed campus culture featuring with Youth, Health, Harmony and Endeavor.
